Mountain biking builds character on old bodies
Well I have scratched the new Rocky mountain bike already, trouble was it was in the driveway outside the roller door! Bikers will know that sometimes you just can’t unclip in time and you fall on the ground, you just hope nobody is looking at the time. My scratched legs however happened on the latest trip down Ben Lomond when I got stuck in a line and a tree / bush came up fast, I had to avoid, trying to get the bike out of the rut line resulted in the bike and I parting ways with me on the other side of the track (missing the bush) bashing up my legs. The bike suffered a slight bend of the derailleur but nothing to worry about.
Sharon had a spectacular crash also at speed at Trevallyn a week ago. Following her around Deadmans Knob she just drifted offline slightly and as soon as she turned the wheel in the she-oak needles it was all over with the bike on it’s side, Sharon tasting gravel and gravel rash, I was on the brakes pretty hard to not run over the top of her. Once recovered from the ‘small off’ she set a 2nd fastest time on one of the next segments so it did not affect her riding too bad. The bruises have lasted a while though and the Rocky has a bad scar on the brake body.
Sharon did a trip on Wednesday with her riding group girls to do the first day of the Blue Dragon course. Sounds like it was a big day. Ben Mather even got caught on camera going over the handle bars through a creek crossing, not something you see every day.
