2016 LMBC 6HR
The 2016 edition of the LMBC 6HR was again held at the Kate Reed Reserve behind the Silverdome on a fantastic day for racing. The track was in reasonable condition after all the winter rains and this years edition was run in the reverse of last years 6HR. Sharon was teamed up with Teresa in a two woman team and I for the first time ever raced in a team of 2 with Brooksy.
XC racing not being my thing I told Brooksy he was starting. We decided to do single laps initially then change to double laps at a time for the middle of the race and finish off with a couple of singles again. The double laps suited me much better being just short of the hour. Brooksy was lapping around 27 minutes and I was around 24 minutes which surprised me a bit as this short sprinting XC format is not really my thing.
The Crankers ride group was out in force and there was plenty of rivalry between everybody. Brooksy and I were just having fun but be we managed to slowly work our way up to and past the other Crankers. With 26 minutes to go Brooksy swapped over to me and I cranked out my second fastest lap (5sec off my fastest) and came in with 2 minutes to go before the 6 hour cutoff and Brooksy went out again and we got a lap up on the other Crankers completing 15 laps, 6th place overall in the pairs. No age group categories in the pairs just one big group. The winners did 16 laps so we had a pretty good run.
Sharon and Teresa only got their team together a few minutes before the entries closed late Wednesday night. Teresa had to catch a plane to Darwin before the race finished so she left an hour before the finish with Sharon to do the rest. They started off with double laps but it was not Teresa’s preferred option and they swapped back to singles with Sharon finishing off with a double. They ended up on 11 laps and second in category.
I had been ‘ordered’ to go out and have some ‘fun’ on the mountain bike and get my mojo back again after the post event blues had set in after the national 24. I had a great time as did Brooksy beating some more fancied rivals. The girls had a great day as well. Plenty of trash talk and banter during the day with perfect weather, a great day out to get the mojo back again.
