Deddington Dash
Today Sharon and I both raced in the Deddington Dash road races. Sharon was in round 4 of the Super Chix womens only race and I was in the ‘E’ grade mens race. The race starts just past the pub at Evandale and goes out through Nile then to Deddington and back. The ride out was into a very strong headwind but an enjoyable tailwind on the way back in.
My race was 39km of cat and mouse followed by a 1km race and sprint to the line. Some old stagers and way more aggressive riders than myself locked out the front and basically road down the center line of the road for the last 10km. I came in 7th in ‘E’ grade 3.3 seconds behind the winner. Once there was a gap between the front 5 and myself it was all lost but I still sprinted in and gained a bit of distance on the run into the line. Not my type of race with no climbing and a very short distance (40km).
Sharon had a great race coming in 13th overall and 8th in ‘E’ grade. When we passed them going out only a few KM from the finish she was in second place however the scratch markers rounded them all up with only 3km to the finish. Sharon expected to be caught way before then so she is getting much stronger as she continues to ride.
Not sure I will bother with any more of these very short races with no hills as they are not suited to my strengths. Having said that I am going out to Whitemore tomorrow morning to race with the VETs in a 48km 2 lapper. They are a much more social bunch to ride with though and there are no sheep stations for the winners.
