Overland – Day 5 – Pelion to Windermere (15Km)

A very early start today to get some miles along the track and see where we end up. A cold start and we were off towards Frog Flats and Pelion West. We made good time and stopped at Frog Flats before 10AM and Pelion Creek before 11AM. I went exploring looking for the Pelion West track start for some future trip planning.

Everything changed as we hit Pine Forrest Moor and it became very open and exposed. It would be a very unpleasant place in bad weather but we had a perfect day again. We went down and had a look at the private hut on the Moor and then stopped at the Forth Valley lookout and looked back across to Oakleigh across the valley.

We arrived at an empty Windermere hut around 14:00 and were undecided if to push on to Waterfall Valley or stay here for the night. After much procrastination sitting around in the sun having lunch we decided to stay. Nobody turned up so we had the hut to ourselves for the night. We explored around the area and found a great vantage point up behind the hut that gave great views.
