Overland – Day 6
Overland – Day 6 – Windermere to Ronny Creek (23Km)
We woke to rain, wind and a rather unpleasant day. We were so lucky to have the best days in the middle when they are best used. Lake Will was our next destination and arrived their for morning tea with low cloud and rain. I went out to Innes falls through the very braided and muddy track(s). The falls had a good display on for me but I did not enjoy the walk around and back.
Some more rain and wind on our way to Waterfall Valley hut but we arrived for lunch to another empty hut and decided due to the bad weather we may as well walk out today. We ate all our spare food and headed off after an hour or so of resting up and lightening our packs.
Traveling around the cirque was rather unpleasant in the driving wind and rain hitting us square in the face. we decided to go down the Horse Track rather than via Marions as it may have had less slippery steep sections and we had not been that way before either. It seemed like for ever to get to the BP hut. I popped up their for a quick look and a couple of familiar faces from the track sitting in front of the fire after their overland trek. The section from here was steep and went on and on it seemed.
We arrived back at Ronny Creek to our truck sitting lonely in the car park around 17:00 as the light was just starting to fade. The end of a fantastic trip and a great time. It could not have been to much better given all the variables. Stopped at Sheffield for some great fish and chips on the way home and back to our bed and a great nights sleep after another 20Km + day.
