Wombat Attacks Longford Bunch
Riding on my first Longford bunch ride after several invites from Hilary it all went wrong about 20 minutes in when a wombat who should have been home in bed already as it was almost 8:30AM wandered onto the road and created some chaos with our riding bunch. Hilary up the front yelled ‘wombat’ and it rippled down the line in a confusion of avoiding and luck. This sort of call normally means some road kill to avoid but not this time.
The quite active wombat did not know what way to go and as Sarah who was directly in front of me tried to avoid him he darted between her wheels and bottom bracket. Sarah was now sitting on top of a moving wombat and only bad things could come of this. Sarah went down and I crashed into her bringing me down as well.
After everything had settled and everybody got unclipped and untangled the wombat was no where to be seen. A passing motorist stopped to make sure everybody was ok. We sucked it up and continued on for the rest of the ride a little on edge for passing wildlife. Once home a nice corked calf, bruised arse and some other minor bruises and little cuts became apparent. Even so it was a great bunch to ride with and enjoyed it immensely.
If you look in the data at the right place you can see the sudden stop!

Might need one of those transparent waterproof dressings on the big graze ! Don’t want that to get infected! You could have some colourful bruises there over next few days! Ouch !
