Day 13 – Todd Mall and the RFDS
I guess malls are the same all over Australia after experiencing the one here in Alice today. The Todd Mall is in the centre of the towns CBD and the visitor information centre is right on one end. Slightly different cultural aspect here than at home. There was a surprising amount of non indigenous blacks here as well. Maybe they settle refugees here?

We finally tracked down the best tourist brochure for NT that a guy showed us at Arkaringa Station. The book has little advertising and excellent maps and is split into 2WD and 4WD sections with excellent road and destination descriptions. We also found another excellent brochure that covered northern Australia from WA to QLD. Very well set out and alphabetical listing of towns and destinations.
We stocked up on gas for our Jetboil at the outdoor shop called Lone Dingo. We could not resists a few bargains as well. Sharon got a new jumper and beanie from Target and then we headed out to the RFDS centre. Was a little pricey for what you got but all proceeds go directly to the RFDS so there is a sizable donation built into the price I guess. A short movie with a very young queen way back talking on their radio and all about their planes and history. A small static display and gift shop. The static display has some interesting old radios they have used through their history and a working pedal powered radio. Unfortunately the aircraft flight simulator was broken and some of the static voice displays did not work either. We met some more scary dummies here!

The plan was to visit the Dessert Park in the afternoon but after stuffing around checking the truck MAP sensor condition and fixing the o-ring on the camper gas connection we had missed the boat and decided to extend our stay here another couple of nights and do a few day trips from here. The next few days will be day trips around the East and West Macdonald ranges and the dessert park tomorrow. We will leave here on Friday morning now and get back on the road to some where.

We've got a simulator at our base here in Launceston Col & the engineer is my bro in law, he'd show you around anytime! … I don't think he'd charge! Lol! Those dummies are freaky! I'm glad Shaz got se shopping in!
Yes I met him few times when I worked out at the airport. Not seen their new simulator though but been in their hangar a few times. I used to share a flat and work with David Liddell who is one of their pilots now.
