Nic’s Cradle Challenge
Nic’s Cradle Challenge is a bike ride in honour of the memory of Nic Easton who contracted leukaemia and died on January 1st 2014. Ric Easton, Nics father runs this annual ride to promote awareness and raise funds for leukaemia research and ride for the memory of Nic. The website explains all about the ride and why and how it is run.
This was our first year doing this ride and it was our last big ride before the Kellevie 12 hour next weekend. Sharon chose to do the 66km ride from Moina to Dove lake return while I did the full 126km ride from Sheffield to Dove lake and back.Hilary was also doing the shorter ride and road with Sharon after turning up quite late and nearly missing the start. James joined me on the full ride also from our FHaT riding group.
The ride was a little challenging in places with a couple of decent climbs but the only real discomfort was the wind and rain at Cradle. One good thing was the direction of the wind giving us a nice tailwind on the run home. We all met up back at Moina before James and I continued on with a very fast fun descent down to the second last climb of the day. All to soon we were cresting the last climb into Sheffield with the day hotting up and enjoying a great spread put on by the race committee. An enjoyable day out on the bike and they raised over $10k for the leukaemia foundation.
