Kellevie 24HR Final Prep
Sunday Sharon and I drove down to Kellevie again to cut some laps with my final bike setup and make sure everything was spot on. I have replaced the tyres on the bike and had both of my new wheels on for the whole time after a few tubeless sealing problems last Saturday. It was great to get a few more laps in and smooth out my riding. I think all the road bike training for the 3 Peaks has left me a bit short of mountain bike (MTB) fitness and I am going to suffer for it but it can’t be changed now. Everything kicks off 12 mid day this Saturday and runs till 12 mid day on Sunday.
I did a few laps with Sharon and got her through a couple of the ‘A’ lines that she found quite easy once she tried them and she cut 5 minutes off her best lap time from last Saturday. I have got the whole track sussed out now with only one berm that I can’t get smooth and one sandy corner that I just can’t get through quickly. I just hope that after 10 or so laps in the race I’m getting through them better. I did knock 3 minutes off my best lap time since last Saturday so I am riding the track much smoother with the race setup and a few more laps on track.
There is a live timing link below that you will be able to monitor the race timing and my progress (or lack of it). Predictions are that 300+ km will be required to win depending on how everybody is on the day so 30+ laps over the 24HRs. Sharon and I are madly getting everything together for nutrition, spares and camping gear. The camper is already on the truck and ready to go with some stuff already packed. Our table is starting to look like a supermarket with all the nutrition on it and we have about 5 separate list on the go. Sharon is also cooking some carb rich goodies on Thursday to take. We are heading down Friday afternoon and camping onsite Friday night. We will camp Sunday night as well after the race and drive back Monday some time after I have woken up, can walk again or both.
