Walls loop in a day
I was going to do this walk as an over nighter but due to workload and circumstances I ended up doing it as a day walk. The only real plan I had was to walk into Lake Adelaide and be the first to bag the new Geocache there, depending on time I would make the rest up as I went along. I got up at 5AM and drove to the Walls car park where it was overcast with low cloud on arrival. As I arrived a female German tourist was just leaving for a day walk to Mt Jerusalem. I left a bit after her @7:15AM. She had headphones on and it was impossible not to scare her as I passed her on the way up to Trappers. Moving along pretty quickly with only a day pack on I reached Trappers in around 30 minutes. The heart was pumping at the top! I went right at the top of the hill down the Lake Adelaide track. I have walked some of this before but not all the way in.
It was a windy and drizzly walk down the valley and I had my coat on for about an hour. I arrived at Lake Adelaide just before 9AM and yes I was the first to log this new Geocache. When I lifted the rock up to replace it there was a lovely little whip snake (white lipped snake) sharing the Geocaches home. I had a look around the immediate area and tried to decide what plan for the rest of the day. I thought I might wander overt the hill to Lake Ball for a look and check out the hut. When I got their I just kept going and ended up at Dixons Kingdom around 11:00AM. I only passed a couple who had spent the night in the Lake Ball Hut and one guy camped at Dixons on this section. The wind was quite strong and had a chill about it but no more rain.
After an early lunch at Dixons I walked through to the main track and came across the German tourist again who was now on her way back from Jerusalem making good time. Two large groups of students heading to Jerusalem and a small group up on Solomons Throne on this section.
Once I arrived at Wild Dog it got really interesting. Two groups of totally unprepared walkers asking about how far and how long to Jerusalem. Then as I was leaving the area a woman came running up to me to ask where the visitors center was so they could buy a map! I explained this was not Cradle Mountain and showed them my map plus some advice I hope they followed. I found a good size tiger snake on the track near Solomons Jewels that I showed the German Tourist who got a buzz out of being so close to it. Quite a few more groups on the way in with one stand out, two Queensland women carrying two packs each. They had way too much gear and wine. I gave them some helpful advice as well. They were a bit deflated when they found out I had done the loop they were taking seven days to do and I had done it in a day but I did not do all the peaks or side trips today of course.
The afternoon was walking in quite hot conditions and I got back at the car around 2PM. I was still playing tourist guide giving all sorts of advice and plotting stuff on maps for people of things worth visiting and other walk information at the car park. It was a great day and a good work out covering about 24Km.
