Multi-sport?
While considering challenges for next year when I turn 50 a multi-sport event crossed my mind after watching Sharon and her team do the Ice Breaker Challenge a couple of weekends back. Biking, paddling and running seem to be a good mix as my swimming is just hopeless. So with out much effort I arranged a paddle in a race ski at Lake Trevallyn with the help of a riding mate who also paddles and runs.
Paddling was just so much fun. Lake Trevallyn with 48km/h wind gusts and a few white caps was the perfect conditions to see if it was for me or not. Pretty shaky start but after one run up the lake and back something clicked and I was suddenly comfortable and having fun but my paddling technique was crap. I did not end up in the drink, pleasing as it was a bit fresh. Riding down the waves with the wind behind my back was fun.
Running will be my Achilles heal and weakest discipline. So I purchased a good set of runners on sale and with nearly 12 months to get up to speed I will have a crack and see how we go. I will have to ease into the running very slowly. Had my first run Sunday and survived. In fact I rode, ran and paddled Sunday the complete multi-sport sequence (in the wrong order).
Not sure where everything is going to fit or how to transport but it will all work out I expect. Might have to extend the bike storage rack for Sharon’s new mountain bike. Yes Sharon has a new MTB on the way, apparently the Hellfire Cup is going to be pretty serious this year. Liz my partner for Hellfire is also training already 164 days out.

What ? – not a 29er !!!!!!!!!!
I know Paul….I’m still not sure how that happened!!
Oh well ! – anyway, i reckon a 27.5 is a better size for all-round purpose. ( but what would i know )
Must have a chat as to why the Scott. Hmmmmm.
Paul
