It’s 14 days to the Kellevie 24HR. Time has flown by since I entered all those months ago. The entry list is out and it’s getting quite real now. Sharon and I traveled down to kellevie today for a ride day. Sarah and Duncan had opened the track up for all to have a run on it.

Bit of a drive down there just for a day trip as it takes about 2h:40 from home. Plenty of people on site today having a ride around. The track was marked well enough to get around the 10.2km circuit. Duncan the organiser was very helpful with information and camping options for the event. It was great to get a look at the place and the layout but more importantly ride the course.

The 10.2km course has a mixture of single track, grassed banks and a very small bit of fire road. The most challenging section was a short rock garden after a fast downhill descent that is sure to catch out a few during the night. There are quite a few close in trees that will catch the unwary during the night. No big climbs with 200M of elevation per lap. Estimates vary from 30-40 laps for the winners. I got 4 laps in today and spent a lot of time on the rock garden, one of the rock drop offs trying different lines till I was happy and learning the course. Being smooth as possible to conserve energy is the order of the day in these events. We have the opportunity to ride it again next Sunday the weekend before the race so we may be on site again for the day to get as much practice as I can.

Only maintenance training from now till the 24HR. Riding Derby tomorrow so that should be fun. Sharon is riding with a large ‘gaggle of gals’ and I’ll go off on my own. Had my new wheels on today and they performed well, the bike is a bit lighter now and accelerates better. I think Sharon is more nervous than I am about the HillBilly.
