Day 28 – Beechworth Weather + Shopping
Nothing much to report today so stop reading now else you will be bored. For those still reading we got hammered by the large storms that went through overnight and till around lunch time today. Lots of big thunder and some lightning. We did not get as much rain as Melbourne did and it was in all these little cells with sometimes clear skies between them.
We ventured out after lunch and walked into Beechworth via a walking track that goes in and around so many mine shafts it was surprising the track had not disappeared into one as they were everywhere either side of the track and even in the middle of the track with big grates over the tops. Apparently there is plenty of alluvial gold in the creek in front of the camper as well. The track continues on around the lake and becomes part of a bike rail trail.

Chinese garden on the walk – bit of a token effort really

There are some interesting shops in Beechworth and Sharon fell in love with Ted Baxter. Ted was 3 month old Groodle (poodle x Golden Retriever). Ted was in an interesting shop called Bang. They had some wicked birthday and other cards on the wall. One particular one caught my eye, a naked large breasted woman tuning one nipple with the caption “on really clear nights Anne can tune into the BBC”. You get the picture now and there were plenty a lot worse than that. After playing with Ted and talking to Bangs quirky owner we moved on to other shops.

Interesting combination

There were some interesting shops we visited with some quite different stuff all priced accordingly or I’m just out of touch with pricing of stuff these days, both options are entirely possible. A couple of purchases later we headed to the Beechworth bakery for afternoon tea. The bakery has a signature pie the Ned Kelly, steak with egg, bacon and cheese top – $4.90, not bad price with a whole egg on top. We had a jaffington, carrot cake and coffee.
Anybody still reading must be bored out of their brains by now – not much happened today….

After walking back I spent a couple of hours on the bikes and finaly got Sharons front tire to mount on the rim tubless. Being on the wheel for a bit with a tube might have done the trick forming the tire a bit better, still was a bugger to get sealed though. Sharon whipped up a wicked tea in the camp kitchen that can only be described as rustic, has gas everything including a pizza oven and even a foosball table. I promise we will ride tomorrow so I can bore you with that endlessly instead of shopping waffle.
