Day 10 – Blores Hill to Colquhoun
We got out of bed early for this trip and I jumped on the mountain bike to check out the new front tyre I put on last night. A quick blast around some of the tracks I did yesterday and back to change over to another tyre to try. Back out on the track I did the trig track again and then found a whole heap of new track I did not ride yesterday over the top end of the park. There were some more excellent “dippers” that got the heart racing plunging into and out of them. So much track here to ride. I also did berm heaven again but cocked it up and lost my rythm about 1/3 of the way in.

Trig track rocky ascent

Way steep and way too much fun in and out of this creek bed

Ringtail with 3 babies on it’s back next to the camper
Sharon found a ringtail possum in the tree next to the camper with 3 babies on it’s back that was kinda cute. It was on the low branches retrieving the babies as best we could tell. There was also a bower bird in the garden just over from the camper with his nicely contructed bower and all this blue plastic scattered about around it.

Back at the camper for a quick breakfast and shower before departure time and we were off first down to the lake for a look. Along the way we formed a plan to visit Colquhoun Mountain Bike Park (pronounced ‘colhoon’ by the locals). We travelled to Bairnsdale and found a local bike shop to replace my broken foot pump end. We found it after a couple of laps around the block as it has recently moved. The guy who served us at Riviera Bike Shop was great and very interested in what we were doing and going to visit. He is trying to get people to visit all the trails and gave us heaps of information and tips. Shopping and lunch was also on the agenda.

Leaving Bairnsdale we visited a park we stopped at with the kids about 12 or so years ago with the most wicked slide and flying fox. Not sure how the fun police have not found this one yet but we were getting a few looks, two oldies having a bit of fun. So just for the kids below is their big kid parents having some fun to remind them of it!

Who was supervising us then?

We arrived at Colquhoun park as it was only about 50M off the highway and checked out the trail head and info for tomorrow. Looking around it seemed camping was allowed around here so after a quick Google and some driving we found the most excellent Log Crossing Picnic area with toilets, fire pits and tables. We promptly folded the camper out and setup with not another soul in sight. A large group of bikers rocked in and out and just before dark a couple of Germans in a crappy old van rocked in for the night.

I spent all the afternoon changing tyres and mechanical tuning of the bikes. With the pump fixed and some hose clamps and brass hose joiners from SuperCheap I managed to get 3 tubeless tyres changed. I could not get the final one to seat and after lots of Stans sealant and the compressor getting very hot I finally gave up and put a tube in it. So we have some more grip now in the front and a bit more on the back.

Nice spot except for the mozies
Tomorrow we will ride the trails here and see what happens from there.

For the Flying Fox – Sharon 7.5 out of 10. Colin, 2 out of 10
You are finding some lovely places.
Sharon missed my dismount when I ran from the back of the ramp trying to go faster only to bottom out onto the platform and give me a right old pain in the arse! That would have bumped my score up a bit?
