We can’t afford Barwon Heads
No biking today. With the weather forecast for terrible weather late today we decided to move camp to a more sheltered spot in the park and spend a day in around Barwon Heads. Been raining on and off since breakfast but very mild temperatures. Winds of 100kmh forecast for late tonight and we had the pick of nearly any campsite we wanted so we chose one low down protected from most sides and no overhanging trees after a walk around the huge caravan park. Where we were high up above the beach was very exposed but a great view. We now have nobody at all around us. Just our luck some one will turn up today and park right next to us like we have experienced in the past.

We quickly decided we could not afford Barwon Heads after all the 50% off racks Sharon looked at in the local shopping area were still so expensive it was silly. Even the fish and chip shop on the corner had prices that made your eyes water. Looking around it became obvious the people who shop here with more Audi’s and Mercs than pleb mobiles. Being so close to Melbourne and having 3 public golf courses in the top 50 in Australia it must be the playground for the well off Melbournites.

We walked over to Ocean Grove and had lunch at the Dunes cafe overlooking the beach and a few surfers in the small break. We thought it might be cheaper on the other side of the bridge but we ended up with a very nice meal for about the same price and a nice easy 3km walk back to work it off. A nice walk back along the beach to Barwon but we still can’t find Diver Dan for Sharon. We did find a bottle shop and an IGA to stock up though.

The days break will be good for Sharon to be fully recharged for Lysterfield Mountain Bike park tomorrow. Sharon has really been looking forward to this one. Lysterfield was the site of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth games MTB XC course plus many other tracks all blue standard apart from 3 that are black. I am told by a reliable Tassie source they are all basically green standard from what we are used to. There is about 20km of trails so we should get a few repeats of the best bits in before we move on. About 5:30 the weather front hit. Hoping for some sleep tonight.

One of these sort of days
