Left Forrest after the fly dried out and we could be bothered moving on from the end of our great Forrest mountain bike adventure. I am sure we will be back it was just great fun and heaps of variety with tracks for everybody a short ride away from the town. We wandered into Colac for a spot of shopping as one thing we learnt about Forrest is to come well prepared as we could not even buy a loaf of bread of any type on Thursday night. Friday morning they had a ‘few loaves’ back in stock. Colac was a far cry from Forrest bustling with activity and people and traffic.

Our target for today was the You Yangs for a spot of – you guessed it – mountain biking. Up the freeway past Geelong and as we turned off the minor road to the entrance of the You Yangs and suddenly every inch of the verge on both sides was lined with cars for a long way. We expected it to be busy on the weekend but this seemed a bit ridiculous. As we rolled past the main entrance we spotted a blow up finish line just up the main access road. Being smart we drove around to the other end of the park thinking it would be ok but the whole park was closed for the Yowie Mountain Bike Marathon, should have got here earlier and had a crack at the 33, 66 or 99KM events. Sharon took ONE photo of all the cars and she deleted it so you will have to imagine it for yourselves.

In hindsight it may have been a blessing in disguise as it was very hot here today and riding around in that heat may not have been much fun. A bite to eat and a reasses and we headed to our already chosen overnight destination Barwon Heads. We paid a few $$’s extra to get a powered site up above the ocean and about 10 steps to the beach. The power pole was a million miles away from our site on the end but the people next to us helped us out with another lead.

Tomorrow is now You Yangs day and then back here to Barwon Heads. I guess today was an enforced rest day from riding. Monday we are doing something a little different (there will be MTB of course), stay tuned.
