Day 50 – Barn Hill Beaches
We explored the beaches one way in the morning (south) and the other way (north) in the evening. Sharon really wanted a swim but the water was murky due to stirred up sand off the beach and you don’t swim around here without being able to see the bottom in clear water. Apparently there was no sand on the beach early in the season and it has just come back.
We met a guy fishing on the beach who is a caretaker here at the park and he has not caught a fish for about a month now even though he goes every day. The only people catching fish are people in boats. He was catching fish up until a month ago and then it went quite all down the coast. As you can guess our rods stayed in the camper all day.
High tide came and went without and improvement in the water quality so we gave up on the swim idea. I sorted and processed a heap of images as we are on power here and Sharon relaxed with a magazine. About 1.5 hours before sunset we walked down the other end of the beach to explore the rock formations and watch the sunset. It was a very red sunset tonight with excellent after glow once the sun went down.

Trying hard for that wow shot!
We got back to the track up off the beach in the dark as it quickly gets dark here not like home. We ended up wandering through some bodies campsite to get back onto the road and they said they were a bit worried about us walking back so late. They could not understand why we were not having a wine or beer by now. That is the way of the grey nomad camper, beer o’clock starts quite early in the afternoon and they will race back from some location so they don’t miss it.
Interesting what others do with their time around here and other campsites. There is a very large population that seems to just sit around all day smoking, chatting or watching TV or DVD’s. Not sure why they can’t do that at home, they are the same there as they are here?
It is critter central here at Barn Hill. Yesterdays large lizard was followed today by the bizzare frill necked lizard who stands upright and run on his hind legs, very amusing to watch. He went up a tree next to our camper and then we spotted the Tawny Frogmouth in another branch. We saw him last night as well but did not get a photo of him. Quite a few birds are ‘humanised’ and wander around your feet while sitting outside the camper. Sharon can hear the high pitched screech of the bats of an evening. I have seen them flying around but not sure what sound they are making, must be old age setting in?
