Day 46 – Beach combing
Just a relaxing day at the beach today. You won’t believe this but the camper was so wet last night from the heavy dew that set in about 7PM that we had to wipe out the inside canvas as it was dripping. Somebody told us it was quite wet here at night. We have the fly on now so there is no problem. There was a large line in the sand off the edge of the camper on both sides this morning with all the water that had run off overnight.
Today we watched whales in the morning and whales in the evening. The lady in the next campsite saw a couple of turtles surface as well. They were breaching and tail slapping this morning. You would see it out in the bay and then a couple of seconds later you would hear the slap of the tail on the water or the body of the whale ding a massive belly flop and it was LOUD.

We had a look around in the rock pools this morning before it got too hot and humid and the tide was coming in so fast we could see it and had to walk across the beach to keep ahead of it. The tides here are the largest in the southern hemisphere at around 10M. The tide sure goes out here at dead low tide.
After relaxing around the campsite for most of the day we headed off about 1.5 hours before sunset and walked 5KM down the beach to some interesting cliffs and features for some sunset photo’s. We spotted our first turtle along here, dead and missing one back fin.

This end of the beach is the location they saw the croc a few weeks ago but we did not see him. After the great sunset we headed back the 5KM to base and while walking along the beach some huge fish were jumping out of the water. We also saw a jumbo overhead with pink vapour trails from the sunset that looked pretty cool.

Moving on tomorrow (from here anyway) after some more exploring of the Dampier Peninsular.

Really lovely area! Nice pics .. Except the poor turtle one 🙁
