Day 25 – Now the fridge is dead!
Well the Tanami has claimed another victim. We arrived at Wolfe Creek Crater very late after yesterdays fuel tank episode. 13 cars camped here tonight and another 3 outside the camp ground. Everything was going smoothly but the gauge on the fridge looked a bit odd. The fridge was working ok on arrival or seemed to be but come morning everything was de-frosting. Luckily we had the Waeco backup to rescue the frozen stuff at least in the freezer and a few items that can tolerate the extra cold from the fridge.
Middle of Wolfe Creek Crater
By the way John Jarret would never drive up the Wolfe Creek Crater road unless he had to, very safe here!

Track down into the crater
We had a kangaroo seeking refuge under our camper from a fox most of the night and come morning they were at it just in the bush from the camper hissing and joisting at each other. We left Wolfe Creek very early, about 7:30am WA time after an hour walking around the crater. We headed off to Halls Creek to get the tank fixed about 180Km away. Along the way we passed the grader driver on the Tanami. The Tanami still had a few patched to keep us on our toes but generaly it was OK for this section. There were heaps of eagles on road kill along the way and we tried to get a few shots. At the end of the Tanami we ate all our fruit, did the Quarantine bit, harden up the shockies, upped the pressures in the tires and we drove onto the lovely smooth bitumen!
Tanami Grader
We talked about the fridge and tank issues and decided to bypass Halls Creek as the chance of getting the fridge fixed there was remote and to head for Kununurra as it is bigger and more services. We stopped at the bungles turn off and checked a few things out along the way. I am more worried about the fridge now as the fuel tank has not moved with that massive strap the mine guys put on it. Getting powered accommodation in Kununurra was hopeless, as much un-powered as you wanted but I wanted to try the fridge on mains to see if it still worked at all. I will need the camper off the truck to get into the back of the fridge making things a logistical nightmare! We have pre-booked a powered site for the next few nights but everything in Kununurra is booked solid till Sunday for the Kununurra Bushmans Rodeo, trust us to arrive in the middle of that.
One of the many fires beside the Great Northern Highway
We will have a few days here what ever happens trying to get things sorted and some day trips. The girl on the desk said it takes 2 days or longer for any parts to get here. We are not used to the huge numbers of people camping in parks. The first park we went to had them crammed in like sardines. This one is a bit better in the un-powered section. I think this will be the theme of the next few weeks as everybody is north, we were warned in Alice about the numbers of people up here at the moment. What we want to do and see is here though so we will just have to get over it and submit to it. We do however have a great view over lake Kununurra to some rocky peak on the other side from our campsite tonight.
