Day 4 – More driving and the mountain bike ride that wasn’t.
After last nights fiasco with Lee (Navman voice) he redeemed himself today and we made our way through the Clare Valley (lots and lots more grape vines) to Melrose, the mountain bike Mecca of South Australia and this is what we found!
Don't know if you can tell but it was pouring!! Bit disappointed but then it started thundering so we left. We will visit on way back in a couple of months and try again. The whole area is one big MTB track of varying terrain and difficulty looks like a lot of fun.
We were also going to possibly attempt to walk up Mt Remarkable but as you can see, it was out there somewhere in the cloud and rain!
Pretty quiet day really just lots of kms. Have stopped for night in Port Augusta, in a caravan park that has all sorts of people in it even wasted old ferals beside us who I'm fairly sure are going to keep me awake tonight! One thing we take for granted when camping around Tasmania is that we are usually by ourselves! Oh well we knew this trip would be an experience.
We are off to Woomera and onwards to Coober Pedy tomorrow…see if I can dig up an Opal??

Happy Opal hunting…
Sounds like you are starting to relax into holiday mode finally!
Not hit us yet that we are going to be away for a while. Give it a couple of weeks and it will hit home I expect. Still feels like a long weekend trip at the moment. 16.7 degrees here at the moment!
Rub it in…6.8C here and the rain you are having is on the way. Shame about the MTB tracks…sounds like an awesome park.
Just back from B'bay – and a call-out for a stretcher carry-out from Stone Hut !!!! Are you available !!!
What have I been telling you Colin – cant beat a map and compass !! Those electronic thingo's are only "so" good.
Even with your nav problems, sounds like you are having a lot of fun. Keep enjoying.
Paul.
I got the stand down SMS this morning when we got back into mobile coverage. Sorry missed that one! 25 degrees in the camper now – hotting up!
