Day 37 – Buxton
After a pleasant night at Marysville we woke to some some drizzle in the morning and the temperature had dropped a bit. Looking at the satellite pictures it was going to clear to a nice day so we did not hurry to get going. The 7 peaks road bike riders were also waiting for the cloud to dissipate some what before they attempted the second last peak of the seven. They eventually got going with spray jackets on around 9:30. There were some very tame King Parrots hanging around our vehicles on the CB antenna, camper and bull bar. They were so tame and almost ate out of your hand.

We headed back down to Buxton MTB Park and got the bikes setup and swapped into MTB gear. Dirt Art from Tassie were still onsite building a 500M kids loop just off to the side of the carpark. We headed onto the trails but I took the wrong entrance and had to back track slightly to get going in the right direction. Signage was ok here but like most tracks we have been to the seem to forget that new people don’t know where the actual start of the trails are, about the only place not signposted.

New carpark and shelter at Buxton
The green section soon turns into blue for almost the rest of the park and they have packed so many berms into this park it is so sweet and fast on any descent. The last downhill section was high speed berm after berm and lots of fun. I new Sharon would love this track after I finished it and she came out of the last corner with the biggest smile of the trip. She said she was so glad we finished off the trip with this track, she even did another half lap even though she was still completely buggered from Buller so she could do all those downhill berms again.

Not the start, it’s the end!

Sweet berms

More sweet berms
Two other guys were riding around as well and chatting with them there was a 3 or 6 hour race on Sunday at the park and they were doing a couple of practice laps before then. They were in front of me on one section and they went either side of a good size snake going across one of the berms. One guy had hiking gaittors on for that exact reason, they looked a little funny I must say, he said everybody laughs at his gaiters when he is riding.

Flow central
After all that fun and some lunch in the sun we headed down the highway to Healsville and had some awesome cake and coffee. Undecided where to spent tonight we eventually ended up at Berwick Show Grounds the same place we stopped on the way out of Melbourne almost 5 weeks ago. Getting to the boat from this side of town is very easy and Sharon had some shopping lined up tomorrow over this way. Our latest trip is almost at an end although I know there is at least one person who will be pleased to have me back at work again.

Yep! 🙂
