Day 34 – Buller Day 3
We woke to -3 degrees, snow on the ground and it still snowing today. As planned we decided to move off the mountain but we met an unexpected snag when two of the vehicles including our own would not run as the diesel was frozen in the lines. The 4WD next to mine had the same problem. They would run for a few seconds and then starve for fuel. We made alternative arrangements and went in another vehicle after much bike swapping and mucking around.

Some of the gear drying from the previous day

The paths are heated up here!!!!!

Bird tracks on the balcony table

We spent most of the day at the the Riffle Butts MTB Park a compact fun little track just outside Masfield. Riding around for some of the morning then we elected to utilise the instructors while they were available for some skills sessions. Sharon elected to head off on a rail trail ride in the afternoon while I elected again to utilise the instructors for some skills sessions. Sally and I had 3 instructors to ourselves and drove the program of what we wanted to ‘workshop’ so it was great with 1 on 1 instructing and advice. I managed to try and get out of a few of my bad habits and got some setup tips to trial on the bike when we get back. It was really good and enjoyable.

Tomorrow we head off to Craigs Hut with the weather forecast for light winds and 12 degrees, about as good as we could hope for. The ride will be 6 to 8 hours depending on how we all travel. There are 3 groups split on ability and speed levels with one group only going to Mt Sterling. Should be a great day if all goes well.

I notice the 4×4 next to yours didn’t get any snow on it !!!!!!
