Day 24 – 100 corners to Omeo then 100 more
Our plan today was to head down the Omeo Highway to the junction that takes us up directly to Falls Creek. This junction is also known as the ‘WTF’ corner on the Scody 3 peaks event some of us are riding next year. This was the perfect opportunity to checkout the 36km final climb of the event. Unluckily for us the road was closed 8KM in. We ignored the no entry signs as they seemed to indicate the road was closed due to bad weather and got as far as 10KM in where a lot of road works were going on in several places. Rather than risk getting too far up the road and no where to turn as it was pretty narrow we turned back and were then forced to travel the long way around through Omeo to get back to Falls Creek eventually.

WTF corner – started at 9.2% grade and went steeper around the next corner

Looking back down

The next bit
This was not all bad as we would now pass through Dinner Plains and Bright both supposed to be full of MTB fun. After the most windy 100KM road I have ever been on we got to Omeo and kept on driving till we hit a nice lookout on the outskirts of town to update blogs and check out bookface and the like as we had no coverage till then. During the afternoon we traveled to Dinner Plains in the highlands but there so called camping was a paved car park where you needed a permit to reside available from the office that looked closed. All very uninviting for travelers like us so we did one of their short walks to stretch the legs and moved on, they missed out on our business. The thunder and dark clouds had us scurrying back to the truck but it did not rain.

Things I do to keep you all updated

Found this strange bug laying eggs in the middle of the track.
We traveled through another 100 winding corners and passed through the next ski resort Mt Hotham. Still amazed at how much infrastructure these places have and how much area they cover. We stopped to get a coffee at the only thing that was open but the lady rushed over and locked the door as soon as we pulled up. So we headed off after admiring the views and traveled down the other side of Hotham through anther 100 corners. You may think I am exaggerating about the corners but we drove most of the day in 3rd gear with one foot constantly braking, surprised my shoulders are not sore from all the wheel turning! All these slow speed roads made the travel times rather slow as well.

Hotham

Hotham
We passed through Harrietville around 16:30 and headed for a roadside campsite just out of town on the Ovens River. Bunch of young ones camped in the other section so I expect we may not get a good nights sleep but time will tell. We will work out tomorrow in the morning, probably head for Bright to test out there MTB trails. Only worry is the next few days here are supposed to be 31 degrees, early morning rides and lazy days?

“Things I do to keep you updated ” – yes, but we appreciate it. 🙂
