Day1 – Boat – Lorne – Forrest
We just made the boat before cutoff by about 5 minutes last night! We had not got organised for this trip and nearly everything got packed and sorted out on the Monday we left to catch the boat. Anyway we made it to Melbourne OK with a bit of rock and roll during the night but all was good. Being last on means you are the first deck off but we always end up on G5 due to the vehicle height anyway.

We still had no idea if we would turn left or right after getting off the boat and collecting our gas cylinders we had a quick talk about it. We turned left and ended up in Lorne for breakfast. Sharon ate at Cafe Kaos only 2 weeks ago during Amys Bike Fondo. I last ate here 14 months ago on last years big trip. The weather was very warm with a good size swell was rolling in. The wind was picking up and the forecast was not good for later today.

We toured through the route Sharon road 2 weeks ago and ended up at Forrest around lunch time. The weather was about to break as we setup the camper in 60km/h winds! The new tie downs on the fly worked a treat stopping the ends vibrating, amazing what you can do with 4 plastic clips from Allgoods, some Duct Tape and 10 minutes on the loungeroom floor! I was going to have it professionaly done before we left but that went out the window with a pre trip packing.

So we sat in the camper nearly all afternoon getting hammered by the storm and wind. Around 4PM a little break in the clouds so we went out (with coats on) and surveyed a couple of maps of the mountain bike trail heads and walked around the Forrest heritage trail.in between hiding under things to get out of the passing showers. We also walked a short 3km section of one of the MTB trails and cleared all the tree rubbish off it as we went.

So to sum up today – Bloody fantastic morning – rubbish afternoon and evening – mountain biking NIL!

Your not the only one’s with storms – plenty of rain here today and fierce winds as well. ( your lawns will be growing – lol )
