Day 10 – More big red rocks
Today we visited The Olgas or Kata Tjuta to be correct after an overdue sleep in till 7:30. In campgrounds one awake all awake. They are 48kms away from Uluru but so prominent on the horizon, this is because The Olgas are actually taller than Uluru.

We started the day with the 7.4km Valley of the Winds walk which wanders through a valley between the domes and not on the domes themselves. We both found this walk far more interesting than the Uluru base walk. There was so much more to see in the valley, more flowering plants, little water holes, magnificent views and birdlife. There were far less people too, we have noticed that the further the walk the less tourists! Uluru was great (in an OMG it’s Uluru I’m actually seeing it for real kind of way) but just a tad too touristy for our liking.

Nankeen Kestrel
Ringneck Parrot
Zebra Finch
Budgie (yes in the wild)
After lunch under our homemade shade awning (yes the marriage just survived it’s creation) we finished with a short walk to Walpa Gorge. Nice little walk but quite boring after the valley walk. Every time we finish a walk or a view or something one of us will say “tick!” as in another experience ticked off the list.
The shade creation!!
The weather is ok, but very cold nights! only 2 last night. I have gone back to my down sleeping bag! The sun is warm during the day but there has been a cold wind as well so we have still been wearing jumpers and it’s only supposed to be 16 tomorrow. Oh well at least it’s not raining.
We stayed at Uluru campground last night which I found pretty grotty for the price really. Tonight we have come back to Curtin Springs (grotty but free!) Tomorrow we are off to Kings Canyon after a few running repairs to the camper, the new water pump switch has given up already, lucky Col brought a second one and the old original as well, just in case. Col suspects a small gas leak in the gas pipe outside…..will report back tomorrow on that one!

Great photos, beautiful colours… Super cute budgie!!
